Mayor of Galway city Frank Fahy launched Galway International Oyster Festival at O’Conaires in The Dock No. 1 yesterday, Tuesday, September 15th. Festival takes place around city’s finest locations and in festival marque from 24th until 27th September. As we recorded at the Spanish Arch, oyster lovers from all around the world are already here ready for festive activities. Galway hookers are getting busier with the oysters supply every day!
Oldest oyster festival in the world and the most internationally recognised Irish festival after St Patrick’s Day. Deemed one of Europe’s longest-running food extravaganzas. Launched in September 1954 by Brian Collins, the manager of the Great Southern Hotel (now called Hotel Meyrick).
